Thank you for your support

While we didn’t achieve our goal of getting elected to Columbus city council, we are thrilled with the support for our campaign. We knew it would be tough for the Democrats to sweep the three at-large seats, and with popular Democratic incumbents Tom Dell and Grace Kestler throwing their hats in the ring for another swing, it was going to be difficult for me to join them the next four years.

But I did get 2,447 votes. That’s nothing to sneeze at in a city election. For those keeping score at home, that’s 4,638 votes over the past two elections.

Republican Josh Burnett, whose family I’ve known for roughly 15 years or so, took that third at-large spot. He’s a good dude. Congratulations, Josh.

So, what’s next?

I’m still committed to doing whatever I can to help my community be the best it can be. I’m on three committees at my church, First Presbyterian of Columbus: social justice, history, and housing. I’ve been going to the Bartholomew County Public Library board meetings for more than a year, and my wife is on the board for the Friends of the Library. So, we’re involved there. I’m open to running for office again, though I’m not sure I want to do that next year. Campaigning two years in a row has proved exhausting, especially with everything else that’s been going on in my life the past six months. I’m also open to serving on boards and committees.

I’ll keep my eyes and ears open and see what happens.

In the meantime, I’ll be staying abreast of the goings-on of city and county government, as well as supporting all the great things we have here, and advocating the needed improvements.

Thanks again, everybody.
